/// House in the countryside, LLubí, Mallorca.
Carlos Marquès Barceló and Toni Ferrari Gual, architects.
Collaborators: Jaume Ramis Mestre, architect.
Work in progress 2022 2024.
This house project in the countryside began by imagining with the clients what the immediate surroundings of the house would be like, where the orchard, the vineyard, the forest or the rows of fruit trees would be developed.
Providing the best views and orientation, and taking advantage of the traces of the dry stone walls that separate the fields, we found the place where the dwelling could act as a frontier between a world where we could grow wild and grow trees, and a more domesticated world of fruit trees and self-consumption crops.
It ends up relating to the two landscapes thanks to a large room that is like a central porch, open to two orientations. To the wildest Southeast, to the Northwest, a protected and elevated environment with terraces, shady spaces and a swimming pool, open to the view of the Sierra de Tramuntana and the town of Llubí. Maclado with this main space appears the kitchen, which together with a pantry, laundry and service bathroom, connects with the volume of the garage and finishes configuring the service area. The arm-shaped layout helps to contain and protect the swimming pool and the terraces by delimiting a domestic and proper space.
The bedrooms are spread over two floors in the most intimate and quiet part of the house. The main bedroom, located on the second floor, has a small porch from which to enjoy the best distant views.
The construction will be made with close and and local materials, marès, lime, wood, trying not to stray too far from the traditional architecture of Mallorca, where the stone, earth and wood houses that were abandoned were eventually reintegrated to the site. The conception of the project is contemporary in its spaces, and at the same time it takes up the tradition of the popular architecture of the countryside of Mallorca.
Systems that provide maximum comfort will be integrated, achieving total energy autonomy and almost zero energy consumption.
